Online Planning Makes Stillwater Home Possible for Couple Moving Across Country
When Rebecca and Peter Gadd decided to move their web-based pet apparel business to Oregon and build their dream home outside Portland, they faced a logistical challenge. How could they oversee a custom home project in Oregon while living in Minnesota? They would have to manage the process remotely, and move to Oregon after the home was already under construction. Their solution—build a prefab home.
After extensive research, the Gadds’ selected Stillwater Dwellings. They were attracted to Stillwater’s designs which include the use of state-of-the-art project management processes. According to Matthew Stannard, founder and CEO of Stillwater Dwellings, “Utilizing a combination of a well-defined prefab building system, technology, and advanced project management techniques our clients are able complete the process in less time and without surprises.”
Stillwater architects worked on the details of the building process with the Gadds’ using two-way online presentation software that allowed them to show and discuss home plans, schedules and budgets in real time, from across the country. But it isn’t all high tech — Stillwater representatives visited the building location, situated the home on the site, and helped the Gadd’s select a qualified builder.
The final design, a slightly modified sd221, features a double height living area open to the kitchen and loft, and a unique corner window treatment that adds a dramatic sense of light and space. The two story home totals 2035 square feet of living area with 3 bedrooms, 2½ baths plus a 2 car attached garage.
“We were doing the whole project from another state and needed to simplify as much as possible. The finished home turned out beautifully. We both love the general feeling of airiness and lightness that the house has, even on dark Northwest days”, said Rebecca Gadd.
